BGW2004 Frequently Asked Questions

I cannot find the program manual? . . .The manual is a PDF document located in the BGW2004 root folder. For the default installation that should be "C:\Program Files\BGW2004".

I have a wall facing Southeast with a window, how do I calculate solar gains? . . .Only south facing windows are calculated as receiving solar gain.  So your windows in the Southeast wall should be entered differently.  I would enter them as South glazing at 1/2 their area.  You might then include the window in the Southeast wall at 1/2 it's value to account for the additional heat loss.

How much area should I assign to mass exposed to direct sunlight ? . . .This is intended to be mass exposed to direct illumination which would be roughly the area of windows where the sunlight is passing through.  The recommendation is to make that area not to exceed 1.5 times the direct gain glazing area (the program defaults to that value).  Since the illuminated portion of the floor will at any given moment be slightly larger than the window area.  Over the course of the day only that surface area will be exposed at a given moment. The rest of the mass within the direct gain space would be considered Group I mass.

I receive a runtime error dialog that I need MSSTDFMT.DLL? . . .You need to click Start > Run and enter the following within the text box "REGSVR32 MSSTDFMT.DLL" click OK and the problem should be resolved.
